Impulse Rehab and Wellness is a multi-faceted Therapy Clinic that has been serving the communities in the Western Suburbs of Chicago and its surrounding neighborhoods for over 5 years. Our team is comprised of Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapists.
THERAPY SERVICES:
Our Physical Therapists treat neurological disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, Parkinson’s, and Multiple Sclerosis. We also treat orthopedic injuries such as post-surgical, amputation and muscular injuries. Our Speech Therapist specializes in aphasia, dysphagia, and memory care. Our Occupational Therapist specializes in hand therapy and is also knowledgeable in treating conditions that involve the shoulder, elbow and wrist. Our team is equipped to perform evaluations for custom wheelchairs and driver’s evaluations to test an individual’s capability to safely drive.
WELLNESS SERVICES:
Our clinic offers exercise classes including Chair Yoga, Senior Exercise, Strength Training, Stretching and Balance Training. We are a proud partner of Silver Sneakers, which allows members to attend our classes for free! Our classes take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and accommodate all fitness levels.
Improve Your Balance & Top Tips to Prevent Falls
- Maintain strength of core and leg muscles. Tip: Use weights, resistance bands, and perform weight bearing exercises.
- Maintain joint flexibility. Tip: Engage in activities such as Yoga or Tai Chi.
- Staying active by walking indoors/outdoors, weather permitting. Tip: Schedule your daily calendar so it becomes a habit or grab a buddy to keep each other accountable. Make it FUN!
- Ensure proper fitted shoes that are not too loose, have a non-skid sole, and lace up snugly (or Velcro). Tip: Do not wear slip-on shoes, flip flops or shoes that are overly heavy or “clunky”. Do: Select shoes that have backs for heel support.
- Proper nutrition to maintain bone density and slow the rate of age-related changes such as osteoporosis. Tip: Complex carbohydrates and fat will help maintain strength and energy throughout the day.
- Replace old or worn walking devices. Tip: replace worn rubber tips on the bottom of walkers or canes.
- Seek out a Physical Therapist for Postural Re-education and Balance Training.
